What is a Citation Template?
A citation template generates a reference note source citation for a book, periodical, collective work or a manuscript. The model contains all of the necessary elements to create a complete citation of your source. When you insert the citation template using a keyboard shortcut or mouse click, it is an instantaneous operation—almost as if the text appears by magic. After inserting the citation template, all you have to do is type and tab through the fields following the default text prompts with your source specific text. Instructions are included with the templates.
I currently have two macro inserted citation template blocks, 18 censuses and 52 other sources commonly used by genealogists, in two formats; basic, and basic with an auto-inserted viewed date for websites. I can insert them into your document/template for the fee listed below. I can also create custom templates from your source citations to meet your specific needs. All citation templates are crafted according to the guidelines of Elizabeth Shown Mills, Evidence Explained: Citing History Sources from Artifacts to Cyberspace (Baltimore: Genealogical Publishing Co., 2015). Remember that citation is an art. These source citation templates provide a starting point. It is your responsibility to read and understand Evidence Explained in order to adapt the templates to the material you are citing. Note: the census citations refer to images on Ancestry.
